British Prime Minister Tony Blair yesterday (27th November) expressed his "deep sorrow" over Britain's role in the slave trade, saying it had been "profoundly shameful". But Mr Blair stopped short of issuing a full apology.
Is it time African Governments, (including our own Zambian Government ) came together formally and asked for an apology from the West?

SLAVERY ISNT JUST A WHITE THING BY THE WAY. IN FACT ARAB TRADERS IN NORTH AFRICA STILL PRACTICE IT AT A SMALLER SCALE.
CHO, IF YOU BELIEVE AN APOLLOGY IS NEEDED FOR THE INVOLVMENT OF THE WHITE RACE IN THE SLAVE TRADE, THEN PERHAPS IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT THAT AN APOLOGY IS GIVEN BY EVERY OTHER RACE AND TRIBE INVOLVED TOO.
TO BE HONEST ALTHOUGH I AGREE WITH MOST PEOPLE THAT THE SLAVE TRADE WAS A TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TRAIT. I DONT BELIEVE ANOTHER APPOLOGY IS NEED FROM ONE PARTICULAR RACE.

My brother, I only introduced the topic. I expressed no leaning towards either side.
I posed the question. I am more interested to hear what people think rather than listen to my own opinion. This has always been my style. Occassionaly I'll ask questions to get clarifications - check whether colleagues have thought about some other points. But essentially I am here to listen and hear views. This is why I posted the thread.

For once I agree with RM ha ha ha ha ha ya, white people need not to apologise for any slave trade of any kind. In fact, as viebowla as stated, we the Africans owe an apology to the African Americans.... What White people should apologise though, is the suffering they put African American through when they were slaves. In other words, racism, harsh labour, crime ,and all bad things they did to African American when they were slaves!!!!!!! Let me stop here before tears start running down......................

You have not stated why SLAVERY on its own does not need an apology.
You are comparing it to other things. CAN YOU SAY WHY THE SLAVE TRADE regardless of all else does not require an apology?
Its that what am interested in.
